The kids and I attended a Spring Celebration at a local Indian museum recently. There was craft items for sale, ceremony demonstrations, food, kids activities, nature walks, etc.
Josh and Carley ground acorns like the Indians.
Poor Joshy wasn't feeling well. He'd had a low fever for two days but said he felt good enough to go to the museum with me and Carley. I thought he was on the mend but four days later he was diagnosed with pneumonia. After a round of two antibiotics, he's back to his normal self.
He still had the sparkle when he smiled.
Carley and I learned how to make beads out of pine nuts. By rubbing the ends of the pine nut against a stone, you wear it down until a whole shows, push out the inside and viola a bead.
Carley's finished bracelet: pine nut bead, shell, pine nut bead.
After the Maidu Yomen celebration, we made a quick trip to the Crocker Art Museum to see an exhibit ending that day.
That Sunday turned into our museum tour. It was a nice change of pace.
