I've been looking through the pictures and they just can't express the fun, laughter and love we experienced those days. The weekend wasn't necessarily about getting out to do as many things as possible or hunkering down to enjoy the rental house. It was about escaping our responsibilities for a couple days and really just enjoying being together.
It all started last summer when we made plans with our friends, Wendy and Chris, to rent a house near Lake Tahoe for a three day weekend. Then in November when we booked the house. At that time it seemed so long until we could actually enjoy it. The wait was worth it.
Initially I was hoping that we'd get snowed on while there so the kids could experience it. The weather turned out to be sunny and warm. I'm glad it did.
We arrived at the house after dark Friday night so first thing Saturday morning both kids went outside to check out the snow. They didn't even bother changing out of their pajamas.
The kids actually spent the majority of daylight hours outside in the yard if Walt and I hadn't taken them somewhere else.
We did lots of sledding.
And even took the kids snowboarding for their first time.
(Sledding and snowboarding stories, videos and photos will have to come in another post. There are just to many.)
Josh kept trying to start snowball fights.
Walt played along a little. What a good dad.
The house was really nice.
We took turns cooking meals and doing dishes.
We played games.
We enjoyed Valentine's Day together.
And drank hot chocolate out of mugs the size of Carley's head.
We played in the hot tub.
We were just a little lazy. Usually while watching the Olympics or playing board games.
And we enjoyed the view.
Especially at sunrise.
It was such a great weekend because we enjoyed being together. The kids weren't too annoying, didn't whine (well, not much), and weren't plugged into a TV all weekend. They played and we played with them.
What great memories.
