Tahoe Weekend

Warning: All things in this post were more fun than they appear.

I've been looking through the pictures and they just can't express the fun, laughter and love we experienced those days. The weekend wasn't necessarily about getting out to do as many things as possible or hunkering down to enjoy the rental house. It was about escaping our responsibilities for a couple days and really just enjoying being together.

It all started last summer when we made plans with our friends, Wendy and Chris, to rent a house near Lake Tahoe for a three day weekend. Then in November when we booked the house. At that time it seemed so long until we could actually enjoy it. The wait was worth it.

Initially I was hoping that we'd get snowed on while there so the kids could experience it. The weather turned out to be sunny and warm. I'm glad it did.

We arrived at the house after dark Friday night so first thing Saturday morning both kids went outside to check out the snow. They didn't even bother changing out of their pajamas.

The kids actually spent the majority of daylight hours outside in the yard if Walt and I hadn't taken them somewhere else.

We did lots of sledding.

And even took the kids snowboarding for their first time.

(Sledding and snowboarding stories, videos and photos will have to come in another post. There are just to many.)

Josh kept trying to start snowball fights.

Walt played along a little. What a good dad.

The house was really nice.

We took turns cooking meals and doing dishes.

We played games.

We enjoyed Valentine's Day together.

And drank hot chocolate out of mugs the size of Carley's head.

tahoe_0533
We played in the hot tub.

We were just a little lazy. Usually while watching the Olympics or playing board games.

And we enjoyed the view.

Especially at sunrise.

It was such a great weekend because we enjoyed being together. The kids weren't too annoying, didn't whine (well, not much), and weren't plugged into a TV all weekend. They played and we played with them.

What great memories.

Sneak Peek: Tahoe Weekend

We spent the three-day weekend in the mountains. All four of us had a great time. The weekend was full of laughter and fun. Here's a quick peek at a few pictures. I'll post more over the week.

A Quick One

My sister, Shelly, came down for a quick visit over the weekend. She got here after 8pm on Friday night and I dropped her back at the airport before 6pm on Sunday. Quick or not it was great to have her here.

CA-Trip-030
Shelly calls herself "Shelly Crocker" so of course she and my "Carley Crocker" had to bake a cake together.

CA-Trip-025
We grabbed some In-N-Out for lunch.

CA-Trip-003
We went to the library for some reading material, a favorite book of Shelly's that she wanted to read to Carley.

CA-Trip-047
We played a lot of games and drank a lot of wine at Wendy's house.

We enjoyed hanging with Shelly and we'll take quick over nothing any day.

Where Do I File a Complaint Against the Tooth Fairy?

DSC_0001_0832
Carley lost another tooth last week. It's her fourth. She pulled it out herself at school and was so proud when she brought it home in a 35mm film canister covered in smiling teeth stickers.

The last time Carley lost a tooth, the tooth fairy didn't come the first night. It's possible that she didn't notice our house (even though there was a tooth under a pillow) because Carley was overnight at a friend's house. But the tooth fairy didn't even come the second night. She came the morning after the second night to leave money but somehow left the tooth behind.

Carley was excited to have another tooth to put under her pillow. Before bed, she took her tooth out of the canister and put it in a clear sandwich bag because she didn't want the tooth fairy to take the canister she loves so much. Carley also left the tooth on top of her pillow because she knows the tooth fairy can be forgetful.

The next morning she crawled into bed with me and said that the tooth fairy forgot again. Her tooth was still on top of her pillow and she couldn't find any money. After she went to inform her dad, I had Carley look under her pillows again. Sure enough, she found money but the tooth was still there. Carley decided she gets to keep the tooth so it is now back in her canister and the money is in her piggy bank.

What is with this tooth fairy? Is she new or in training? She never comes consistently on the first night and she almost always forgets to take the tooth.

Where do I file a complaint against the tooth fairy?
