In 2008, I started this blog as a way to keep out-of-town family and friends up to date with what is happening in our lives. With so much distance between us, they miss out on my kids' events and activities. This gives them the opportunity to watch my kids grow up.

12 Days - Day 9: Aerospace Museum
When the kids were young, I took them to pretty much every museum in Sacramento that could interest a kid. One we never went to is the Aerospace Museum. I really thought they would be bored to death looking at big planes, especially if they were too young to read the signs to learn about the planes.

This summer, I purchased tickets to the museum at a discount through Groupon. We waited until the very last weekend the tickets were valid to actually go but it was a great time. Josh said he enjoyed it so much he wanted to go back and learn more about the aircraft.

The docents there were friendly, helpful retired guys who were full of information and happy to chat for hours. At the end of our time there, Josh and Carley were able to learn a little about flying with flight simulators. Retired pilots were there helping instruct the kids and making sure they didn't crash.
We definitely needed some family time away from the house and this was the perfect thing to do. We loved it.

Family Day
Day 6 of 7 daily posts
Since Christmas and New Year's Day fell on Walt's normal days off, he had two floating holidays to use within a month. So last week he took a couple days off in order to spend time with the kids while they were still on vacation.

We made a trip to San Francisco to visit the California Academy of Sciences. Walt and Josh went a couple years ago but I stayed home with a sick Carley.

Unfortunately is seemed that all of Northern California had last week off. This was the line of ticket holders trying to get through the door.

We finally made it to the door. But the museum was at capacity so we had to wait a bit longer.
Once inside there were more lines for everything from food to entry into the rain forest. We enjoyed the museum though. There were some really neat things to see.

Click HERE to check out Carley and me in the "photo booth" at the museum. There are four pictures.

A Vist to the New Crocker
Day 2 of 7 Daily Posts: don't forget to check back tomorrow!

We've enjoyed visiting the Crocker Art Museum on and off for years. It's small as art museums go but big for the Sacramento scene.

The Crocker isn't so small anymore. It's expanded. And after a couple months closure this summer, it reopened 10/10/10. In November we finally went to check out the addition.
There are things I like and dislike about the new Crocker.

One thing that is my favorite is this room. Large windows let in a lot of light and give a view of downtown Sacramento.

In the same room, this panel of windows show where the old building meets the new building.
The thing about art museums, sometimes they require educating your children about more than just art.

This painting is called "The Birth of Cain". It depicts a baby being pulled from it's mother. I was glad to be just the photographer.
Josh did ask why private parts are okay in art. I don't remember what my response was but I'm sure it was a great one. Ha!
The museum is so much larger than before. It's probably tripled or more in size. We skipped or rushed through portions of the museum because Carley grew tired.

One way to keep Carley entertained just a bit longer is to let her be the photographer.

She definitely has a different angle on things.

I love looking through her captures after I can get my camera back. She's usually reluctant to give it up.
Last year, when I first saw the plans for Crocker's expansion I was disappointed that the new building was so modern. I love the old building with the history behind it and I didn't want to see it dwarfed by something so drastically different.

But now I sort of like that old and new can stand together.
