Sugar and Spice

I know I'm a bit biased but pretty much everyone who has the pleasure of knowing Carley thinks she's adorable and a sweetheart.

One thing about Carley, she loves to dress herself. And usually she's dressing herself in dresses. She loves all things girly.

sometimes she has style....
She sometimes has a great sense of style. I'll look at her and think -in my biased motherly way- how hip she looks like she just came out of a magazine spread.

And other times...
sometimes she does NOT have style...
...so not.

You Say It's Your Birthday....

We celebrated Walt's 43rd birthday earlier this month. It was quiet and just our family. He got some hunting gear, which he picked out because only he knows just what he wants, and some barbecue tools.

Carley was covering his mouth because she didn't like that he was singing his own Happy Birthday song.

I made him his favorite cake. It's called Better Than Sex Cake - I'm sure there are other names but that's how I got the recipe in a speech class years ago. Layers of cake, pineapple, vanilla pudding, coconut and whip cream, mmmhmm.

Happy Birthday, Walt.

My friend, Christy, shares a birthday with Walt. Usually Wendy, Christy and I go wine tasting to celebrate our birthdays but lately we've been switching it up a little.

This year for Christy's birthday we decided to visit the King Tut exhibit that was showing in San Francisco at the De Young Museum. It was fascinating. And VERY crowded.

Of course, no photos were allowed to be taken inside the exhibit.

After seeing the exhibit, we had a lunch of crackers, cheese and wine in the park.

We toured the majority of the De Young Museum. I'd never actually been to it before. It's a beautiful museum.

One of my favorite parts was checking out some of San Francisco from the observation tower.

For dinner we ate at Park Chow, which was within walking distance from the park. The mood was relaxed and comfortable. The food was fabulous, mostly local and all sustainable or organic. Yum.

After dinner, we went back up into the observation tower to see the city at night. It was actually hard to see through the glass because of how bright it was inside. But we had a great time taking several of these reflection shots.

It was a terrific girls day away.

Snowboarding

Boy, I sure know how to drag out blog posts about a single weekend that came and went a month ago. This will finally be the final post about our weekend in Tahoe.

There was a time when Walt and I spent our winters snowboarding. When Josh was a toddler, we used to talk about how much we were looking forward to teaching him how to snowboard when he got older. Well. Time went buy and we never made it happen.

Until that February weekend we spent in Tahoe.

The house we rented was so close, maybe 15 minutes, from Homewood Mountain Ski Resort that we couldn't not make it happen. Walt and I have our own gear so we only had to rent for the kids. That was a bit of an ordeal initially but after over an hour we had it settled and hit the snow with boards in hand.

We took to the bunny slope.

Josh and Carley didn't fare well on the towrope so we'd hike a little bit up the hill, strap the kids onto their boards and watch them ride down. We did this over and over again.

Carley picked up snowboarding really quickly. She had no fear and could stay up on her board well.

Josh, on the other hand, had a hard time getting the hang of it. He truly thought that it would be just like skateboarding (which he doesn't do much of) and that he'd be flying down hills in no time. After learning it wasn't that easy, he got frustrated and wanted to give up.

He didn't. We took a break for lunch and after that he gave it a go again. He got the feel of it and started having a great time.

At the end of the day we were exhausted. We never actually rode a real trail but we had such a great time together that it didn't matter.

Josh and Carley really loved snowboarding; Carley begged to go again the next day.

We all look forward to going again. Next year.

Technical Difficulties

Technically I'm busting my butt in school and it's difficult!

*giggle*

So much studying might be making me a little crazy. Literally. And this post could or could not be proof of that.

I'll try to make a new post over this coming weekend. I wanted you to know I didn't for get about you.
