Carley's Extra Special Tooth

At a regular dentist appointment last month, we learned Carley has an extra tooth. This extra "special" tooth was growing in between the roots of her top, two front teeth and not growing down like normal teeth do but it was growing up towards her nose.

See it there in the middle?

Her extra special tooth needed to be removed to prevent damage or infection to her adult teeth that are growing.

A little anxious in the waiting room.

On Tuesday, she had oral surgery to remove that extra tooth. She was a little nervous but mostly excited to eat Jello and pudding for the next few days.

I was able to stay in the room with her while she was hooked up with laughing gas, an IV and given the anesthesia. They sent me to the waiting room right before she fell asleep. The surgery took about an hour. And luckily Walt was able to get off work to help out. He arrived just after I was taken back to see Carley.

The dentist intended on removing the tooth through Carley's pallet but the tooth was much deeper than he expected. He said it's the deepest he's seen in 15 years! In order to reach it, they had to go in through the front gum and cut the tooth into pieces to get it out. The surgery turned out more invasive than they planned and Carley ended up with more stitches.

She kept falling asleep on the ride home. Dropping the ice bag would wake her up.

Walt was able to pick up the perscriptions while I took Carley home but her medication started wearing off before he got home and poor Carley was in pain.

Once Carley got some pain medication in her, she realized she was starving. She hadn't eaten since the night before. She loved her chocolate pudding which became breakfast and lunch. For dinner she requested blended SpaghettiOs.

The pain medication helped her feel normal. She was bored just laying around watching TV so made a fort to play in.

I can't get a good shot of her gums. It's hard to get get a good look at them even without the camera.

The tooth came out in three pieces but one was sucked up in the mouth vacuum. See the saw mark? The other side has a couple more cuts.

She remembered to put the tooth under her pillow last night. The tooth fairy paid $10 for that extra special tooth! Carley was so excited, she came to wake me up at 3:00 am to let me know.

Walt bought Carley a monkey to keep her busy on her days at home. She insisted we make her a party hat to help celebrate Josh's upcoming birthday.

Wednesday morning she woke up with a swollen lip. It's still pretty swollen today. We've been icing it and she's on antibiotics to prevent infection. I think today will be the last of the worst. Hopefully. Although it has gotten slightly worse. She is either having a reaction to too much codeine or the stomach flu. Poor girl has been vomiting all morning.

Procrastination

I've been procrastinating a blog post because I feel like a broken record saying the same stuff again and again. Did you know this is post #265!? That's a lot of posting! Nothing new is going on here so I feel like I'm repeating myself.

Josh started basketball again and their first game is Saturday. Carley is in tap/ballet at dance studio rather than the park and rec district. Walt is still attending class two evenings a week working his rear end off at work five days a week. And I'm in my fourth semester at Sac State. Same ol', same ol'.

I have been trying to get to know my new camera by taking the kids out on photo excursions.

The first time Carley brought her camera to grab some shots herself.

On a run through the neighborhood I found this cool little park with a trail along a creek. It's hidden behind houses and quite quiet. It may become a favorite place for new adventures.

Still Moving More & Eating Less

Yep. Two months later, I'm still at this exercise and weight loss thing. I see progress and feel good so it keeps me going.

Here's my progress:

weightloss_9weeks
Weight Watchers online is working for me. I've lost 18 pounds in two months. I'm not to my goal yet but I know I'll make it. I think the hardest part will be maintaining it. But I'll make that my goal once I reach my goal.

I love being able to track my points. But sometimes I eat what I want and make up for it with exercise.

That happened last Friday when the family went out to eat at Logan's Roadhouse. I ate what I wanted, a barbecue chicken burger with bacon and cheese. That sucker alone cost me 22 points without counting the roll or sweet potato fries! So for the next three days I ran my fanny off. And lost 0.8 pounds for the week.

febRuns
I ran about 9 times during February. I also got exercise by riding my bike or at home with a P90X video.

feb27Run
My favorite run of the month was last Sunday. I ran 3.2 miles without stopping to walk. I'm trying to up my pace and my distance so I've been trying to push myself occasionally.

feb28Run
Monday I ran along the American River trail for variation. The trail is more scenic than my neighborhood and there are hills to conquer. I definitely had to walk a few times throughout the run.

There you have it. I'm still posting about my goal of Move More, Eat Less, which means I'm proud of what I'm accomplishing. As soon as I stop talking about it, you'll know I've fallen off the wagon so to speak.

Thanks for listening.
