See it there in the middle?
Her extra special tooth needed to be removed to prevent damage or infection to her adult teeth that are growing.
In the car before heading into the office.
A little anxious in the waiting room.
On Tuesday, she had oral surgery to remove that extra tooth. She was a little nervous but mostly excited to eat Jello and pudding for the next few days.
I was able to stay in the room with her while she was hooked up with laughing gas, an IV and given the anesthesia. They sent me to the waiting room right before she fell asleep. The surgery took about an hour. And luckily Walt was able to get off work to help out. He arrived just after I was taken back to see Carley.
The dentist intended on removing the tooth through Carley's pallet but the tooth was much deeper than he expected. He said it's the deepest he's seen in 15 years! In order to reach it, they had to go in through the front gum and cut the tooth into pieces to get it out. The surgery turned out more invasive than they planned and Carley ended up with more stitches.
She kept falling asleep on the ride home. Dropping the ice bag would wake her up.
Walt was able to pick up the perscriptions while I took Carley home but her medication started wearing off before he got home and poor Carley was in pain.
Once Carley got some pain medication in her, she realized she was starving. She hadn't eaten since the night before. She loved her chocolate pudding which became breakfast and lunch. For dinner she requested blended SpaghettiOs.
The pain medication helped her feel normal. She was bored just laying around watching TV so made a fort to play in.
I can't get a good shot of her gums. It's hard to get get a good look at them even without the camera.
The tooth came out in three pieces but one was sucked up in the mouth vacuum. See the saw mark? The other side has a couple more cuts.
She remembered to put the tooth under her pillow last night. The tooth fairy paid $10 for that extra special tooth! Carley was so excited, she came to wake me up at 3:00 am to let me know.
Walt bought Carley a monkey to keep her busy on her days at home. She insisted we make her a party hat to help celebrate Josh's upcoming birthday.
Wednesday morning she woke up with a swollen lip. It's still pretty swollen today. We've been icing it and she's on antibiotics to prevent infection. I think today will be the last of the worst. Hopefully. Although it has gotten slightly worse. She is either having a reaction to too much codeine or the stomach flu. Poor girl has been vomiting all morning.
