Feeling Foolish

Yesterday was April Fool's Day and initially I figured I wouldn't play any jokes on the kids but once I had a little time during the day I couldn't resist. I went with tricky food since this would be the third year in a row I faked them out with food. Last year is was the cupcake dinner - really meatloaf with mashed potatoes.
April Fools

The year before was chicken nuggets with ketchup -actually bananas coated with peanut butter and crushed nilla cookies and a side of seedless strawberry jelly.

This year: fish sticks with ketchup and peas.

Actually wafer cookies smeared in peanut butter and smashed in crushed Corn Flakes. The peas, which didn't come out that great, are rolled up Dots pieces. It was supposed to be Laffy Taffy which is less opaque but I couldn't find it anywhere. The ketchup, again, is seedless strawberry jelly.

Josh does not like the tricky food. He probably won't be able to eat fish sticks for a month.

Carley, on the other hand, loved it once she knew what it was. She ate up Josh's too.

Swamp Monster!

We had a swamp monster in the house this week and we live nowhere near a swamp! Thankfully I have two terrific kids that are pros at wrangling a swamp monster and detaining him with smiles.

Actually this is Walt in his new ghillie suit, which he bought with his birthday money. He's been wanting one of these real bad. He plans on wearing it while lying in wait for a turkey to walk by (out hunting, not at home!). Hopefully the turkeys will think he looks like a bush but I think he looks like a swamp monster.
