Last week, Carley learned to ride her bike!
We are all so proud of her.
And she is so proud of herself.
Josh learned to ride his bike when he was four, maybe five-years-old. Walt and I tried teaching Carley on a smaller bike when she was about that age too. She started getting the hang of it but lost interest quickly.
A couple years ago, Santa brought her a new bike (the one in the photos, which is obviously too small now) with training wheels. Early this summer, I took the training wheels off her bike and tried teaching her how to ride again. And again she lost interest quickly.
Last week I asked her if she would let her big brother teach her how to ride her bike in a local high school parking lot. She went for it! Since it's Christmas break and the parking lot has lots of space with limited poles, she had lots of space to learn. I think just having Josh there participating in her bike riding might have been the push Carley needed.
She picked it up right away! And she hasn't fallen once since she learned to ride! I guess Carley likes to do things at her own pace and on her own schedule.
Since the day she learned, she's rode around her school (photos) and she rode around our neighborhood while I ran along side. She's getting stronger at her abilities and soon we'll be able to go on a bike ride together, maybe even on the bike path along the river.
Watch her on the video:

Life is like riding a bicycle - in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving. ~Albert Einstein
