Before this year I've hardly spent any time at Lake Tahoe. But this year alone, I went three times! The first was
our three-day weekend in February.Second, the kids and I stayed a
couple nights with friends. Last weekend I went again with my friend, Cari.

I've known Cari for about 17 years; we met while working at Jay Jacobs in Seattle in the early 1990s. Now she lives in San Diego where
I visited her in June. Even though we don't see each other regularly, she's one of those friends I can pick right up with, like we never missed a beat.

The first day we went to
Vikingsholm castle on Emerald Bay. It's about a mile hike from the road
down to the lake where the castle is located. Which means the hike back to the car is
all uphill.

The castle was built in the late 1920s as a summer home. Unfortunately it was closed for restoration but the house itself had such character. It was built in with a Scandinavian design with all local lumber and rocks.

The house is sort of an octagon shape with a courtyard in the center. Even though the inside of the house was closed to visitors, we could go into the courtyard. This is the view from in the courtyard.

There were quite a few chipmunks. The chipmunks were somewhat aggressive trying to get food from the tourists. One even came up and grabbed my ankle!

On the grounds of Vikingsholm, there are two waterfalls. We hiked the short distance to Lower Eagle Falls. Being the end of summer, the falls weren't too big but it was still beautiful to see.

During sunset we had drinks at a bar & grill on the lake.

The hotel we stayed in was just a couple blocks from Stateline, Nevada so we headed to the casinos for some fun. We gambled the penny slots since we're such high rollers. I even lost $40! Like literally
lost it out of my pocket. That's how unlucky I am at gambling. I don't even have to play to lose!

On Saturday, before heading home, we kicked it at Meeks Bay. The weather was warm enough for sun bathing but the water wasn't warm enough for swimming. Brrrr.

We ultimately did get into the water before leaving. How could we not swim in the beautiful Lake Tahoe?

The water at Meeks Bay is so crystal clear, I've never seen anything like it before. It was the perfect place to end our two fun days at Lake Tahoe.
